A little History about our signature Smith and Kraus Stage Monologue Series.
Smith & Kraus started the Annual Stage Monologue Series in 1990, the year that we started publishing. In fact, the Best Men’s and Best Women’s Stage Monologues of 1990 were the first titles that Smith and Kraus published. It’s hard to believe that back in 1990 there were only a handful of stage monologue books for actors, and most of them were published as small staple bound volumes. And at the time, there were no collections of monologues from plays produced that season or the previous one. In 2011 We added the Best 10 Minute Play books to our annual series.

"Magee crafts a gently sacrilegious satire that finds humanity and humor in Frank's journey of self-discovery, with the unconventional love story that develops between Frank and Daria adding a charming emotional note." —Publishers Weekly Booklife
SAVED is the hilarious, high-spirited story of Frank Tripping, a Midwestern family man and a conservative Christian, who comes to suspect his new next-door neighbors are drug dealers. Frank, living in an evangelical bubble in the mid-2000s, doesn’t know much about this category, “drugs” but he sees it as his duty to investigate. In doing so he steps out of his church-based world, leaps over the cultural divide and finds the outside world not what he was told it was. A satire that doesn’t stray too far afield from reality, SAVED takes place in the years just before evangelicals went gaga over MAGA. Frank Tripping’s journey, a heart-warming hoot, is the perfect antidote for our divided times.

2020 was not a great year for a variety of reasons, particularly because of Covid-19. The virus is nothing to laugh at, but these plays provide a bit of levity in these unprecedented and stressful times. Laughter, after all, is the best medicine.
