Chautauqua Institution Welcomes Playwright Mary Hall Surface as Writer-in-Residence

Chautauqua, NY – The Chautauqua Institution, a historic community in Western New York where over 100,000 people gather each summer to celebrate the arts and foster civil discourse, is thrilled to announce acclaimed playwright Mary Hall Surface as a Writer-in-Residence for its 2025 Literary Arts program.

During her residency, Surface will lead a dynamic course, Finding Your Muse: Creative Writing Inspired by Visual Art, designed to spark creativity by drawing inspiration from visual storytelling. Additionally, she will present a reading of her celebrated work as a playwright on Sunday, July 6, in the Hall of Philosophy, offering attendees a chance to engage with her powerful narratives.
